A Geekbench listing has revealed a new Poco device carrying the same code name as the Redmi K30 4G variant in China. While the listing doesn’t reveal anything else, it gives us a fair idea about the Poco X2 it could essentially be a rebranded version of the Redmi K30 4G in India.
The Redmi K30 4G is a fairly powerful phone with the best midrange specifications from the 4G era. It uses a Snapdragon 730G chipset and relies on a 4500mAh battery that also gets support for fast charging. The biggest highlight of the K30 is the presence of a 120Hz 1080p LCD display. It even gets a 64-megapixel main camera that’s accompanied by three more cameras at the back.
It’s quite affordable in China too, with base prices starting at almost Rs 16,000.
Will the Poco X2 be a rebadged Redmi K30?
In essence, that could be a possibility. Poco has said in another interview to the media that it will share resources with Xiaomi and under that arrangement, Poco could use the underpinnings of the Redmi K30 4G for the X2. However, to make its product distinct, Poco could change the design of the device. Hence, chances are that you could end up seeing the Redmi K30 based Poco X2 using a simple plastic body or even a Kevlar panel like the original Poco F1.
If it’s indeed a rebadged Redmi K30 4G, the Poco X2 could directly take on the most popular phone in this class the Realme X2. Straight up, Poco will have some advantages in the form of a better and bigger 120Hz display, bigger battery and possibly, newer version of Android. However, another leak suggests that Poco may drop the 120Hz refresh rate to keep the prices under check.
Will Poco X2 replace the Poco F1?
That’s something difficult to predict. Poco has assured that it will continue to support the Poco F1 in terms of software and after sales service. The phone is still selling at Rs 14,999 and that makes it the cheapest phone with a Snapdragon 845 chipset. Hence, Poco can continue to dominate the sub-Rs 20,000 segment with the F1’s superior performance.
However, the Poco F1 is an old phone and getting the Snapdragon 845 may pose difficulties for the company. Hence, Poco could replace the F1 with the Redmi K30-based X2 and even though it might not be as powerful as the F1, it can woo customers with more RAM and storage as well as a bigger battery.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi could bring in the Redmi K30 5G to India at a slightly higher price and it could sit above the Poco X2 in terms of pricing. Poco may launch a Poco F2 or a Poco X2 Pro that could be based on the upcoming Redmi K30 Pro, offering a Snapdragon 865 chipset.
