Will Poco X2 be a rebranded Redmi K30 4G? This is what it may cost and speculated features

Rumours of a Poco X2 coming soon are doing rounds of the web. It is said that the X2 could be based on the Redmi K30 4G variant.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Redmi K30 4G could form the underpinnings of the Poco X2.
  • GeekBench listing suggests the Poco X2 will use the Snapdragon 730G chipset.
  • Poco may drop the 120Hz refresh rate option for the X2.
Yes, Poco is alive and it’s coming back for another stint that’s the big news in the world of smartphones and technology this month. Poco will exist as a spin-off brand for Xiaomi in India and it will continue to come with affordable phones that use flagship-grade specifications. We know this much about Poco so far from the official sources but these days, leaked information says more about a company’s launch than the official sources.
Of late, a few rumours about a new Poco device have been doing rounds on the web and from what it seems, Poco is set to follow a multi-device strategy this year. While a successor to the Poco F1 is still unknown, rumours now suggest that Poco might be launching a new affordable handset under a different series name. It will be called the Poco X2 and based on some benchmark leaks, it could be based on a phone that we already know a lot.
Poco X2: What we know about it so far
The Poco X2 is a phone that’s expected to be more affordable than the F series phones. Previous leaks have shown a midrange device with slightly older design trends, with a smaller dot drop notch in the display. Now, it seems that it will be based on a phone that’s already out in China since a few weeks the Redmi K30.
A Geekbench listing has revealed a new Poco device carrying the same code name as the Redmi K30 4G variant in China. While the listing doesn’t reveal anything else, it gives us a fair idea about the Poco X2 it could essentially be a rebranded version of the Redmi K30 4G in India.
The Redmi K30 4G is a fairly powerful phone with the best midrange specifications from the 4G era. It uses a Snapdragon 730G chipset and relies on a 4500mAh battery that also gets support for fast charging. The biggest highlight of the K30 is the presence of a 120Hz 1080p LCD display. It even gets a 64-megapixel main camera that’s accompanied by three more cameras at the back.
It’s quite affordable in China too, with base prices starting at almost Rs 16,000.
Will the Poco X2 be a rebadged Redmi K30?
In essence, that could be a possibility. Poco has said in another interview to the media that it will share resources with Xiaomi and under that arrangement, Poco could use the underpinnings of the Redmi K30 4G for the X2. However, to make its product distinct, Poco could change the design of the device. Hence, chances are that you could end up seeing the Redmi K30 based Poco X2 using a simple plastic body or even a Kevlar panel like the original Poco F1.
If it’s indeed a rebadged Redmi K30 4G, the Poco X2 could directly take on the most popular phone in this class the Realme X2. Straight up, Poco will have some advantages in the form of a better and bigger 120Hz display, bigger battery and possibly, newer version of Android. However, another leak suggests that Poco may drop the 120Hz refresh rate to keep the prices under check.
Will Poco X2 replace the Poco F1?
That’s something difficult to predict. Poco has assured that it will continue to support the Poco F1 in terms of software and after sales service. The phone is still selling at Rs 14,999 and that makes it the cheapest phone with a Snapdragon 845 chipset. Hence, Poco can continue to dominate the sub-Rs 20,000 segment with the F1’s superior performance.
However, the Poco F1 is an old phone and getting the Snapdragon 845 may pose difficulties for the company. Hence, Poco could replace the F1 with the Redmi K30-based X2 and even though it might not be as powerful as the F1, it can woo customers with more RAM and storage as well as a bigger battery.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi could bring in the Redmi K30 5G to India at a slightly higher price and it could sit above the Poco X2 in terms of pricing. Poco may launch a Poco F2 or a Poco X2 Pro that could be based on the upcoming Redmi K30 Pro, offering a Snapdragon 865 chipset.
We can only speculate as of now but it seems that Poco may have big plans for India with a multi-device strategy to take on the likes of Realme and Vivo’s iQOO with cheaper yet high-performance Android phones. Stay tuned for all updates on Poco.

The Samsung Galaxy A41 was seen in  multiple   leaks  earlier this year and now makes its official debut in Japan. It's a preliminary announcement rather since the Galaxy A41 is only scheduled to hit the shelves in June 2020. The Galaxy A41 brings notable improvements over the  Galaxy A40  starting with the larger 6.1" FHD+ Super AMOLED display. The main camera setup uses a single vertical roll as opposed to the rectangular plates of most recent A-series phones. Weekly poll: Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro bring the S865, skimp on zoom - was that a mistake?

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 was an odd duck but its chipset of choice left many wanting. The new Mi 10 duo is both larger and more powerful than Note and it’s usually the other way around . The Xiaomi mi 10 brings the Snapdragon 865 chipset, the performance of which is a class above the S730G found in the Note phone. It also enables 5G connectivity, which is becoming increasingly important as carriers have already covered major metropolitan areas around the world. The upgrade to UFS 3.0 storage (from 2.0) will be tangible as well. The screen got a major boost - a 6.67” panel, up from 6.39” of the Mi 9 and 6.47” of the Mi Note 10. Better yet, this is the first Mi-series phone to boast a high refresh rate screen – 90Hz (though the Redmi lineup already has a 120Hz phone). Xiaomi equipped the Mi 10 with the 108MP sensor that Samsung designed for it. Thanks to the chipset upgrade, it’s capable of recording 8K video as well as 4K at 60fps. One major downside of the new flagship is ...
